How To Apply
Backpacks for Kids makes every effort to provide for everyone who applies and meets program policy requirements. However, due to the large volume of requests, we mainly provide on a first come, first serve basis, and we are unable to guarantee provisions for all who apply. Therefore, it is important for applicants to make requests early in May and June of each year. Requests received after July 15th are likely to be put on a waitlist.
To qualify for a backpack equipped with supplies, a student must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- The student must be a Yolo County resident.
- The student must be enrolled in a grade K-12th.
- The student must be enrolled in a Yolo County school.
- The student’s family must have an annual income that does not exceed 100-150% of the federal poverty level by family size (please see chart below for income guidelines).

Note: The 100% column shows the federal poverty level for each family size, and the percentage column that follows represents an income level that is commonly used as guidelines for health programs.
